A First Grouse Harvest

Dave

Recommended Posts

My 11 year old with his first grouse harvest. I didn't know kids under 12 can bird hunt without a gun safety certificate, until another FMer posted a pic of his 10 year old with a harvest just awhile back.

So, another hunter is hooked now!

I remember my first grouse as well, with my dad along my side.

Now, I might take heat from this, but I hate to say it, where is your son's Blaze Orange? It is required by anyone taking small game, at least one article of clothing (hat, shirt) above the waist. I just want the young guy to be safe, and instill that from day one.

Lund4ver,

Good point about the orange.shocked.gif Actually, he was in the cabin when his older brother yelled for him to come out, since he saw it seeing by the driveway and he wanted his little brother to bag him. I guess with all the excitement about him getting his first grouse, old dad forgot to bring out the proper wear for a photo crazy.gif Thanks for the reminder.

Dave,

Not a problem...When I first started grouse hunting with my dad when I was 10 years old, Blaze Orange wasn't required....and that was only 18 years ago.

I am glad to see another young guy with that smile on his face. Nothing better, just waiting now for my two sons to be old enough to bag their first grouse each.

Seen many grouse by your cabin where ever that might be?

Saw a handful of grouse. Saw more grouse in prior months when we were just riding ATVs. Now that the boys are carrying guns, only a handful of grouse showed up. My place is eight miles east of Mille Lacs.

Flushed some grouse on public land and my 13 year old was, "daydreaming" he said. I remember those days at 13, too! grin.gif I'm not carrying a gun this year, haven't bird hunted for about 15 years; just walking with them and showing them what it's about. They seem to not get enough of hunting so, looks like I trained 'em good wink.gif
