Lake Turnover!!

I have heard different people tell me different reason why lakes turn over. Why do they??? and how does this affect the fishing???

Lakes turnover because the water on the surface of the lakes becomes colder than the water below, causing the water from the bottom to rise to the top.

Yep, what pond hopper said... It happens in the spring and in the fall... when the water on the surface is cooler than the water below the water inverts.. How this affects fishing?.. during the summer months the lake will statify(spelling?) and make a thermocline, below the thermocline oxygen is much lower and hence the fish do not use this water. However when the lake rolls over, the lake has a faily uniform oxygen level so the fish can pretty much go where ever they please.

I have heard that on most lakes the temp. it turns is in the mid to high 50's.
