MN
I am new to the food saver and am interested in bagging some veggies, mainly corn.In the manual they talk about blanching which I understand as a short boil and then bagging. Is this important? Can I fully cook it on the cob and then bag the whole cob? Can I fully cook it and then take it off the cob? If it needs to be blanched how exactly do I do it... What do you do with other vegetibles?MN
Sandbar
MN,Last year my parents cooked and bagged about 10 dozen ears of corn. They dropped the ears of corn in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then into large bowl of ice water. Dry the cobs and cut off the corn. The corn tastes excellent in the middle of January.Sandbar[This message has been edited by Sandbar (edited 08-05-2004).]
fishnhooks
I have done whole ears of corn in my food saver. I peel them, then clean them under water. Put them in a bag still wet and slap some slices of butter on them, then seal them. Throw them in the freezer until you want to eat them. When your hungry, take them out of the freezer throw them in some boiling water. They come out already buttered and then salt and pepper to your liking. I think they are great."hooks"
