Lake Trout Fishing

An suggestions on further reading (trying to do some research) on Lake Trout Fishing through the ice. A response to and earlier post suggested giving it a try. I have never gone, but would love to try. Any info will be appreciated.

Sparetime, Lake trout fishing through the ice is a great time! There has been lots of talk about this subject throughout the last 4 years as it seems to be gaining interest.

Each year FM has an event called "The Burntside Bash" that they specifically target lake trout. To learn more about that event or to gain further knowledge is to dig around in the BWCA-Duluth-Ely Range. Lots of the pro-staffers and members target those fighting machines once the season opens in January.

I got into lake trout fishing pretty heavily for 3-4 yrs and can say it is a blast. Pound for pound those guys definately give you a good battle once they hit! It is also fun to watch your locator and graph them.

Watching the movie will only get your blood pumping...definately an experience worth trying!

I have heard of people fihing for lakers by tipup and a dead smelt - how do you attach the smelt and how high off the bottom do you go - also where do you buy the frozen smelt - ect.
