hey everyone, i am new to this site, and am currently building a 7'8 x 17 drop down house. I am on a very strict budget and am taking pictures along the way to post online. Here is the kicker.....i am tryin to spend under $1300. So kinda a budget build thing. The frame is completed, it took one week to convert an old camper frame, i got a 15000 btu forced air furnace out of a motorhome. Currently i have $270 into the drop frame, furnace, stove/oven, copper piping, and trailer wiring and lites. The floor is going on this weekend. Oh yeah, according to our calculations all finished, the measurement from the floor to the ice will be about 11" thats including 4x4 wood underneath. Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated.

I will try to post pics soon. I gotta buy the green treated wood tomorrow. Its not your conventional drop down, it has no suspension(cringe). I built it with pullout axles out of a tube that runs across the frame, so close to a solid axle with side crank bumper jacks on the back corners and the front of course. The camper frame will work better than i ever could have imagined. The main frame rails are 2x5 steel tubing with angle iron running across and 2x6 green treated down the center and the sides so it is still pretty light. The furnace is out os an older motorhome, 12volt 3.4 amp forced air(exactly the same exact specs as some companies selling theirs for 500 and i got mine for 50). Being a 16 foot frame, i can put the back bumper on jack stands and with the wheels installed, i can lift the whole frame by the tongue without an extreme amount of effort. i plan on 2x2 walls and a rubber roof(75$ for the rubber and $20 for the adhesive) I am debating on a curved, or vaulted roof. i plan on a rear booth that folds into a full size bed, bunk above it, eye bolts for a hammock, front bathroom, and the stove and cabinet next to it. I am planning on 6 holes. each hole in the floor being 14" to try and help with the 11 inch drop. I also plan on linoleum in the front by the door all the way across to the stove and in the bathroom. I also wanna put linoleum around all the holes, but still have carpet down the center of the house. Since the axles will pull out, the doghouses for the wheels will be minimal, maybe 15 inches up the wall and not much more than 2 feet long. The floor in the center of the house will have a hinged door to access the spring loaded pins for the axles and also serve as a cold storage for drinks and food as it will be direct access to the the ice, possibly a optimal spot for an extra hole for a vexilar transducer?? I started with a complete pos camper last weekend with a bored friend and a sawzall and now im to the point where i will be putting the floor on. What does everyone recommend for ceiling height???? i am thinking 6'6 just so i can stand comfortably and have 2" clearance??? what do you all recommend? also what are some good batteries to buy?

sorry for the long post lol i am skipping out on bow hunting for this last minute fish house project so it better be worth it

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
