SCUMFROG
My daughter is 17 and starting a new job tonight. Can she file exempt on her tax forms?
wayne123
I do not know the answer to your question but have a few things for you to consider. I would make sure she has enogh withheld so she does not have to pay taxes at the end of the year. If it was my daughter I would want her to pay some taxes (even if she gets a refund). I think this would help her learn about life.
fishinchicks
It depends on whether you are still claiming her on yours, and how much she will be making. I'd check with an accountant to figure out the best way to handle it.
markkstanley
If she expects to earn less than $5100 a year, claim exempt. Over that amount as a dependent she will have to pay taxes. Go to irs.gov. They have a simple calculator for this.
