Night fishing.

I hear alot about night fishing in the hottest summer months and have spent some time doing it with no success. Is night fishing a good option in the fall? THe days are getting so darn short that fishing after work isn't really an option unless you go a coupla hours after dark.

Hiya -

Fall night fishing can be quite good if conditions allow it (sometimes it's just too dang cold to fish effectively). Big spinnerbaits, big wide-wobbling cranks like Believers or Jakes... Actually some jerkbaits are very good after dark too believe it or not. If you think about it the night thing makes sense - water is clearing up considerably on most lakes...

In the fall issue of the Next Bite and Esox Angler, Josh Borovsky, who is from the Twin Cities, has a very good article on fall night fishing. It's well worth checking out.

Yeah, the Jason mask is pretty funny. At least to me. We actually got one VERY irate phone call about it. Someone was really offended I guess... Sort of surprising...

Don't forget about night trolling, too. One five hour three muskie night made a believer out of me. Humps, sunken islands, defined weedlines are all good.

Jakes, Believers, Slammers, Deep Phantoms, and Grandmas are all good. Consider matching the hatch and if you have a full moon, even better!
