Sent question.

I know that sent illimanation is probally the most crittacal thing in hunting whitetails and I've taken the time to play the wind , use sent suit and sent blockers,sent on the ground. You get the I idea my Question is you've gone to the effort in controlling your sent what about the Gun. (cleaners,solvents,oil, powder from shooting)? I can just open some of the solvents in the garage and my wife immedatly asks what are you doing that stuff stinks.I was always taught to shoot from a clean gun. Thats kind of always been in the back of my mind while I'm sitting in the tree stand. What do you guys do?

i think I was on Cabelas'HSOforum and there is a no scent oil and stuff like that. They are making products that are designed to lubricate and protect your gun yet not smell. If I find the site with a link I'll pass it on but I know they make something.

Thanks Code-Man I had herd about that stuff and figured it would be to expensive to buy, but thats a really good price on that stuff. The only thing that stinks is the shiping costs as much as the product. still not a bad price though.

Does any body know if one of the sponsers of this site might carry that type of product?

I don't think scent control is as critical when gun hunting as opposed to archary. Regardless you still need to at least take wind into account.

With that in mind I would say:

It depends on where and how you hunt. If you are in tight cover it makes a big difference. You will need the deer close and if they smell your gun the gig is up.

If you are hunting an opening, place you stand off 100-150 yds and clean your gun with what ever works the best.

I personnally have not had problems. I hunt the south side of an opening and expect deer to come in on the north side. Prevailing winds blow the stink away from the deer and I get a nice 125 yard shot.
