Green Lake & Chisago Lake

Recommended Posts

I called the CO for this area with these questions but he is on assignment for two weeks out of the area. Does anyone know if you can hunt ducks on the south end of Green Lake in Chisago County? What about the middle to southern end of Chisago Lake?

Mpester,

Yes you can hunt the south end of Green Lake. I've been doing it for the last 4-5 years. Slim pickin's the last couple years but we usually get some shooting. As far as Chisago goes you may want to call the city and see if they have any special ordinances. When they annexed all the property around Green I called them and they told me that they had no regulations and the DNR regs were all that applied. As long as you are in the water and partially camoflaged by natural vegetation you should be fine.

Wrshog - Thanks for the information. I think the same probably applies to the south end of Chisago but I better call the sheriff. The south end of Chisago Lake is not in the city boundaries of either Chisago City or Lindstrom so the same rules will apply as in the rest of the county.

I just got a new Alumacraft Yukon and I was thinking of trying these two lakes on weekdays this season. I bet the competition for spots on the weekends might be heavy and the numbers of early fisherman on the weekends may be too many to be safe.

This weekend I am going to take the new boat on these lakes to GPS some spots for duck hunting, do a little fishing and break in the new motor. I can not wait for 9/30 to get here. Good luck this season.

Mike

Mpester-

It's not too bad on Green after pheasant opens. In the past I have only been able to get out on the weekends and I have always been able to get a spot. The fishermen usually avoid the south end of the lake after opener. The worst we have had happen was a pilot learning to land on the water flew 100 ft over our heads for about an hour one Saturday. Maybe we'll see you out there this fall.

Although it is lighter during the week. The weekends are when the ducks really move around (More hunters)so there is normally more action. If you can find a spot where the ducks are flying into in the evening then that would be a good midweek spot.

Thanks for the information. If I am looking at the correct island, the west tip of the island is 257 meters from the closest land to the west. The island I am looking at has a few trees on it. That is far enough away to hunt but the east end of the island looks like a better spot. I see a very small reed island (maybe a real island on the air photo) to the west that may be what you are talking about and that would be too close. I think I will fight the crowds at Pelican Lake in Wright county for opener but I will give Green a try later in the year. If the hunting is slow, I can always pull out the fishing rods. Good luck.
