Them BIG Channel Cats are going good on The Red river up here north of Drayton. Not seeing the numbers of fish like the past 2 seasons on account of the low water, but every trip is giving up 1 or 2 20 pounders anyways. Fish are going good on the big frogs now.

Things slowed?? Hmmm... thats a big NEGATIVE!

Dtro & I fished BP Cat League last night and got 2 flatties & 3 channels. The first flathead was 39" and around 26lbs. The second flathead was about a 10 pounder. Larry (LFC) was just upriver from us and he got a 48" flathead that was just shy of 40lbs. Long, somewhat skinny fish. He also got a flathead in the 26lb range as well. I'm sure photos will be posted soon. What a great night of fishing considering cold front conditions, 50 degree air temp, a stiff wind that kept blowing the boat around, and a full moon.

I also got an e-mail from a fellow FMer who went flattie fishing for the first time last night, they got 2 fish as well with 1 being a mid 20pounder. I hope he posts his report. His e-mail sounded pretty exciting!

Congrats to Dtro&Hanson on a good night of catching.

Congrats to Dtro, I just netted all the fish. And showed Dtro the spot too! I had been on part of this section of river before but I convinced him we should just go "exploring" We fished a couple snags and a creek mouth and checked out a lot of other structure on the way. The snag produced the big flattie and the creek mouth produced 2 fish within 5 minutes of getting there.

This creek mouth was unreal. There was a delta that reached a little bit out into the river with about 6" of water covering the delta. Because the wind was blowing upstream, we nosed the bow up onto a little mud point on the delta to hold the boat still. While we were setting up, we saw 2 fish explode out of that shallow water, my guess a couple smaller flatheads were up there. Here's the cool part, the bow of the boat was on "shore" and the depthfinder at the back of the boat was reading 14' of water. It dropped straight down like right now! Unreal!

Here you go Nitefisher. I don't think the guys will mind.

Dtro with a 39" Flathead, about 26lbs.

Dtro with a smaller flathead, maybe 8 lbs.

And here's Larry (LFC) with a 48" Flathead weighing just shy of 40lbs. I think this fish has potential to be 50lbs plus at the right time of year. 48" is a long fish!
