Flaco651
I was passing through Iowa on my way back from California a couple days ago and crossed over the des moines river. It was around midnight and I couldn't see the river too well, just a little help from the moon light. It appeared to be be a decent size river and then got to wondering if there was any Flatheads in there or even any channels. I was thinking it could be a half way close weekend get away spot from the twin cities. I would appreciate any info.
FISHINGFARMER
The Des Moines river holds both flatheads and channel cats.Try below any dams or around drift piles. Some very large flatheads have been caught lately out of the Raccoon river system just to the west of the Des Moines. The stretch from Perry to Adel is a very good area to concentrate your search for them in. This is very good water for holding large flats 30lb. on up.Good luck if you try the rivers!Farmer
Flaco651
Thanks for the info. I would like to try to get down there sometime early fall and give it a shot. We've got plenty of good Flathead water up here like the MN river, Mississippi, and the St. Croix but it would be fun to try somewhere new. If I make it down there I will post results.
