UdeLakeTom
Flathead catfish eat the strangest things...He needs to read this forum. Interesting article though.
Dan Thiem
I was concerned about the treble hook thing he mentioned. It's tough enough getting any gut hooked fish back in good shape let alone a treble hook with chicken liver.
honky kong
read the article on my way home from the fair last night. i thought the same thing about the treble hooks. did anyone see the big flatty in the pond up there, it didn't move much and layed there upside down for a few minutes while i was standing there. hanson
The treble hook thing didn't strike me as very odd. All the premanufactured stink bait "worms" and "tubes" are tied with a treble hook. This type of rigging is very, very common throughout the US. Now this got me to thinking, I've always understood that you needed a bead or a spinner blade to make a treble hook legal, as it is then considered a "lure". Does adding a small piece of ribbed plastic or a rubber tube with holes in it now make a treble hook a "lure" by the definitions of MN law. I may have to write the DNR about this. Not that I'm a big stink bait guy but my curiosity is now going. If Clancy wants to fish flatheads to see how weird the bait really is, I'll join him. I like Clancy's writing, always have. The few shows I've watched with him deerhunting with the Realtree boys are good stuff. He got caught in the eye with the scope of his rifle one time and was bleeding pretty good. Too funny!
