Danny61231
Hi, I purchased my first house this sping and slightly their after, I started seeing small tunnels running across my yard. As the summer progressed, the tunnels started to disapear and holes started showing up next to my stairs going into my house. The holes keep getting bigger and I need to put a stop to these varmits. I have got a quick glance at a couple of these things and they only appear to be at most about 6-8 inches long. How can I get rid of them and what might they be? Thanks a lot. stick
Uneducated guess, but I'd say voles. I battle them, but rarely see them...unless they are stuck with the business end of my plunging spike trap. You can buy them almost at any hardware store or the Fleet Farms and the like. You step down the tunnel, and stab the unit into the ground so the trigger tab is resting on the top of the ground. When they push the tunnel back up, they trigger the spikes that plunge the heck out of the little nuisance varmints. I always feel like Carl Spangler (Bill Murray from CaddyShack). eurolarva
Ace hardware in Blaine sells a product called mole nots. The bottle looks like rabbit turds and stinks real bad however it will get rid of your problem in about a week. Just use your finger and poke a small hole into the tunnel. PUt a teaspoon of mole nots in then cover the hole. Do this about every 10 ft
New Yankee
Some of the lawn and tree experts might chime in, but I've always heard that if you apply a grub killer to the lawn, you take away the food souce and therefore they move on.
