Wow......that's a lot of Kittes...

Cut n Paste....

Over 6,820 pounds of catfish were caught on the Red River in last weekend's Cats Incredible event. A total of 938 fish were brought to the weigh-in station, the average weight being 7.27 pounds.

The winning team, Travis and Pat Carter of Jefferson, SD, brought in 84.05 pounds.

"I remember when bringing in seventy pounds (of catfish) would win you the tournament," emcee Ernie the Angler said.

The Carters, a father and son team, have been fishing together "for as long as I can remember," according to the younger Carter, Travis. Pat's brother Darrell and nephew, Matthew placed second in this year's tournament. Matthew and Darrell are from Elk Point, SD, and brought in 82.76 pounds.

Jeff Twomey and Darrell Utzinger of St. Paul and East Grand Forks, took fourth place with 79.39 pounds. The duo also took home the "Big Bud" award for the largest fish caught in the tournament, a whopping 22.14 pounds.

The top fifty winning teams can be found on page nine of this week's Exponent.

Many of the spectators took in the sights and sounds of the Greenway. Children were entertained by jumping in the inflatable games and taking part in a hunt for coins in a sandbox. The kids got to take home every coin they found.

Shortly after 5:00 pm Saturday, storm clouds rolled in, dumping rain on the party, sending people scurrying for cover. Events planned for the evening were cancelled. The fishing teams had been off the water for approximately an hour before the rain, and were unaffected by the downpour.

Despite the muddy conditions Sunday, many people came back to witness the award ceremony, and the fishing teams unwound and swapped stories of the ones that "got away."
