Gas in oil

Hubcat

Question

I have a older john deere skid loader and I was getting it running. I drained the oil and there seems to be gas mixed in with it. Anyone have any idea of how it got in there. The Last time we ran it, it smoked a lot and lacked power.

Also I can Start it but one cylinder makes a little more noise then the other, and when I pull the plug wire on that side it does not make much difference in how it runs (there is Spark). But when I pull the plug wire on the other Cylinder it kills. Could these two problems be related? (oil in gas and Bad cylinder)

Thanks Bob

You figured out your own problem without knowing it!! grin.gif What you need to do know is why that cylinder isn't working (lack of compression, a bad plug, excessive fuel). Gas can and will make itself past the rings and come to rest in the oil. We see it all the time in the winter when a vehicle has flooded.

Do both cylinders run off the same carb?

Airjer,

Sorry it took me so long to reply back (been on vacation)

Thanks for the info. Yes there is only one carb for both cylinders.

The compression seems fine in both cylinders, But the spark does not seem the good and I think the plug in the cylinder making all the noise may be firing only part of the time.

So I think I am going to replace the points and the plugs and maybe the plug wires and go from there.

Sounds like a good, reasonably inexprensive, probably needs to be done anyway, idea.

I was thinking about maybe swaping the plugs to see if the misfire follows the plug to the other cylinder. That way we know for sure that the "tune-up" will have it running like new!!
