OUTDOORNUT
NASCAR driver and noted outdoorsman Ryan Newman has given a $10,000 grant to a conservation organization.Trout Unlimited strives to conserve, protect and restore North America's trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. Newman, who spends his spare time fishing, is also working with the organization to develop programs that enable individuals to help protect rivers, lakes and streams."I'm a lifetime member of Trout Unlimited because I believe in the work they do to protect the great outdoors," Newman said. "I've met a lot of NASCAR fans who are avid fisherman like me, and they know how important it is to protect the beautiful land and water that we enjoy today so our grandchildren can enjoy it in the future."Trout Unlimited accomplishes its mission through a volunteer network that testifies before Congress, publishes a quarterly magazine, intervenes in federal legal proceedings and keeps the 400 chapters nationwide active and involved in conservation issues.Newman, through his foundation, is also working with Trout Unlimited's "Back the Brookie" program to restore the population and range of Appalachia's only native trout. His foundation is also holding a charity fishing tournament in North Carolina in December, and he's invited Trout Unlimited to be on hand to educate on conservation issues.
