Question

Hi folks, Just bought a new Alumacraft for chasing walleyes this year. Am thinking about rigging it with splashguards for backtrolling. Wondering if anyone has info on where to pick a set up and which side of the outboard works best to mount your transom trolling motor on? Thanks

I strongly recommend WhiteCap slashguards. A guy makes them in his garage in Prior Lake Mn and he has a HSOforum. They are stronger than WaveWackers but cost half the price and the warranty is better. Self installation is simple. As far as which side to put your transom trolling motor is personal choice. But a general rule of thumb is to be able to steer your motor with the hand you crank your reel with. Guys who reel with their right hand, like myself, have the motor on the left side of the transom if your looking at the motor from inside of the boat. If you reel with your left, then put it on the right.Good Luck
