I am going on my 2nd walleye fishing excusion to Kelly's Island, Ohio this weekend. Any beginners tips would be greatly appreciated. I am very new to the sport but found a love for it. My fist time out I caught one sheephead and would like to do much better. Thanks!

val33, i havent ever fished erie or know anything about it but my advice is to check the fishing reports for the area and talk to the locals when you get there. Maybe they'll hook you up and get you on some fish.

Looks like a great island though, have a good time!

Clint, Iraq? Welcome aboard. Troops on FM thousands of miles away is as cool as it gets. I support you 100%.

As for beginner's to 'eye fishing, the list goes on and on. But, a good place to start would be local guides. I'm not saying this because I am one myself but spending a few bucks can go along way when targeting a specific species that some guys are on top of every day of the week.

I fish Erie in the spring but that's it, I don't know what techniques guys are using now. But I have found that there really are no secrets on Erie, everyone is open to talking about it on the internet, in the bait shops, and on the vhf radio. Wish I could help more but there should be some very specific info out there for you. Good luck.
