I went to Exide Orbital's this year instead of Optimas. So far so good.

If you are using a regular portable charger and if battery says deep cycle then set charger to deep cycle. If it doesn't say deep cycle then set charger to normal. This assumes that you are charging a normal battery and not a special one like gell cell. That's about as simple as I see it.

I have been running a Blue top Optima for my starter batery and the inderstate marines bateries for my 24v system.

Not and issue in the last 6 years. I leave the batteries in the boat all winter.

I just fully charge them and put the boat away.

First warm day late winter I run power out to the charge and full charge them and they are good for the season to go.

I top them off before first time out with the boat.

No troubles in the 6years I have owned the boat.
