working a hellhound

Very similar to other glide baits. Short downward taps of the rod work well. You can literally make them dance in place if you tap the rod down without reeling. They could also be trolled, I haven't done it, but I have straight retrieved them in the last few feet and they glide quite nicely.

Pretty fool proof. If you get a follow, stop reeling and tap the rod down in the same rythm and it will dance in place. It could trigger the fish to bite.

Ive found the easiest way for me is one quick full crank followed by a half second pause then another full crank and so on... This will make it 'walk'. The shorter the pause the faster (obviously) and tighter it will walk.

Ive got to try making it dance in place. I havnt got to fish it much and probably wont for awhile with the high water temps.

Probably the easiest jerk/glide bait to work in my opinion. The reason being it is very eratic and makes some significant direction changes and wide swings based on your action. The fact that is more eratic than most glide baits, I think makes more it more effective in many instances. It is really easy to make it "dance" and you wiill have no problem. I would start with a "jackpot" caidence and then vary from there. I got a 40" on a Hellhound this morning on the St. Croix. In the water release and the fish swam away very strong.
