Getting Bait to the Walleyes

We were in MN last week and I need some help. I bought a half pound of leeches and took up 5 doz crawlers in hopes of feeding some walleyes. Went through all that bait in 4 days due to the gills, perch and rock bass eating my bait before I could get it down. I was fishing jigs in 8-20 feet of water and depth did not matter. Tried slip bobbers and lindy rigs but same results. Had fun catching lots of fish but not what I was after. Short of trying a different lake, any ideas?

Hmmmm, maybe a drop shot rig with a heavier weight to get it down quickly.

Try using chub minnows,four to six inchers.
