BWCA Fire hurting/helping moose hunting?

Recommended Posts

My first scouting trip isn't for a few more weeks. Anyone know how moose react to a burned out area a couple of months after a fire? Does it have to grow up for a year or two before they like it? I also have not been able to figure out which zones are likely to be affected from the maps they are showing on the news.

Your moose may already be roasted after the fire goes through. Saves time and effort - just slice off a hunk and start chowing! Of course, if several months have passed you may end up with jerky instead.

I am not sure if that first reply will help confused.gifgrin.gif. Here is what I think, when a area gets logged off the, the deer and moose dissappear for the first 6 months or so. Then once the small trees begin to reappear, it seems like more animals come than were there in the first place. When there are fires, it causes a natural regeneration that logging otherwise causes. So IMO I don't think there will be moose around right away, but give it a year and they will be everywhere.
