Winch Strap Question

I just replaced the rope on my winch with a strap. At the winch end there was a "loop" and bolt to attach the rope to the winch reel. This loop would not work for the strap so I took it off and duct taped the strap to the winch reel. Trust me, this is not a good application for duct tape. The reel spins around without reeling in the strap under even a light load.

So how do you attach a strap to a winch? Perhaps, my winch is too old. The trailer is from the 1970's.

Most newer winches have holes for the bolt to go through letting you attach the strap, you could drill holes in your winch like I did or buy a new winch I think they are like $20 or something.

I would go for the new winch. Fleet farm has em, I got one this year. I think it was $20 like Pier said. Much easier than modifying the old one...IMO

Thanks PierBridge and Fishing4Life. I think I'll go back to using a rope on the winch. I wasn't that impressed with the strap even if it wouldn't have been slipping. It got caught in the gears too easily.
