Hot Bite, then nothing

I don't know if this is common for a lot of you guys too, but I notice it a lot. For example two days ago I was out on White Bear and got into a hot smallie bite. I was in a spot for about 30 minutes. Finally found the color they liked. Caught a few on a green comoda. Then nothing. So I switched to tubes. Also a few on a tube. Then again nothing. I then tried everything in the book to get them to bite again and no avail. There were tons of bait fishin the area, and I was working a weedline, that sharply dropped off. Shallowest point being about 3 feet, deepest being about 12 - 15 feet. (not exact as that night someone forgot the battery for the depth finder. LOL, not to mention i was fishing alone, haha)

I have this happen a lot, they will be hitting hard for about 20 - 25 minutes then it seems as though they stop. I have found the best action from being at 8:30pm - 9:00pm so far.

Do a lot of you guys experience this? Any tips to follow the bite and boat more fish when this happens?

That's smallmouth fishing for you. Up on Rainy you can be sitting in 50 feet of water and all of a sudden they'll start feeding and you can catch 10 of them in a few minutes and then they are gone for a few hours sometimes then they'll repeat that frenzy. Up their they coral the smelt against rock cliffs and the surface and just go nuts on them for a few minutes.

They sure are a blast to catch when they are hitting though! Sure are fighters. Even when you get em in the boat. Had two flop out of my grip onto the bottom of the boat when I was trying to measure them. One landed in my tackle box, I think he wanted to go home with me, LOL. My thumb hurt from trying to keep a grip on em!
