Red Cedar Lake - July, 2006

Recommended Posts

Just bought a cabin at the north end of Red Cedar. I had some time to run #5 and #7 Rapalas in both shallow and deep waters (3 way rig). So far rock bass and smallmouth have been my best friend. No walleyes.

My aunt/uncle have lived on Red Cedar for 30 years. My uncle runs cranks in 6-8 feet for opener and always slays the eyes. It seems with the higher water temps this time of year the fish are deeper but even 3 way rigs didn't pick them up.

It sounds like slip bobbers are the way to go for the eyes since cranks have been disappointing as this time in the year. Was hoping to get some advice on location. I have seen a few fish boated on the bars between Stout Island and Stout Point on the north end, but nothing real consistent. I put a Lowrance 26HD on my new 2006 Lund 1800 Fisherman, so if you are willing to share GPS coordinates I'd be happier than a tick on a coonhound.

When using slip bobbers are there any preferred presentations to catching dem eyes? Plain hook? Colored hook? Jighead? Leech? Minnow? Sucker?

Thanks in advance for your advice! Hope to return the favor some day when I get to know the lake better.

I was there a couple weeks ago and I can share one spot with you that we fished for basically two days and caught walleyes and big smallies. Orange jig and leech, orange hooks and slip bobber at night (with a lighted slip bobber) on those humps between the campground and the condo's....sit on top of the hump (8') and cast out towards the deeper water and wait.

what color is you 18 foot lund. There was a guy a couple weeks ago that came off of the north side cabin in a black and tan lund. looked awfully new...we were three of us in an older gray crestliner, my dad was in the front with a white bucket hat.......

oh yeah, that wasn't the spot I was talking about either....

Try dat der rock bar on the west side of the lake on the north end - last point with the little weedy bay inside it before you go under da bridge. Slip bobber, leech, orange gamakatsu hook. Also fish the rock humps out from the channel leading to the dam on the south end of the lake. They top out around 13' depending on water levels. I promise the bobber, leech, orange hook rig is the cats meow on Red Cedar wink.gif
