Speed question

Dumb I am sure, but would like to learn. How is the top speed in MPH measured for a boats horse power? if someone is shopping and they are looking at a 80, 85, 90, 115 and 125 horse. what are the actual speed differences?

05 Lund Fisherman 05 150 yamaha 4 stroke. 3 guys full of gear and 40 gallons of gas plus kicker. About 44-47 top end. 40 gallons will take me a long ways never quite figured it out but last sumer I went from Grand Portage to Isle Royal for the weekend and trolled all day Saturday and when I put the boat on the trailer on sunday it was just under 1/2 tank of gas. I can't complain

Well I was up at Pelican Lake in Orr last week (all week) and was fishing 8-14 hrs/day and used 13 gal.

Good to know. I've ony used 6 gal. tanks in my boat and they last a few hours each. However, I'm no where near the HP that some of you guys are running.
