vermilly?

Recommended Posts

Any of you fellow musky nuts got any tips or tricks , lure selection general locations or otherwise to offer on vermillion for the week of fourth of july? I've got Chad Cain for the last couple of days of my trip just in case , but was hoping to shorten the learning curve prior to the end of the trip.Only been to the big V once so any help would be greatly appreciated by the lake veterans out there.

I know to fish buoys and whatnot but am looking more for general color selection and lure types at this time of the year out there.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Ive been moving most of my fish on topwaters lately mostly on the rocks but some are still in the weeds. As far as color, Im partial to darker colors when it comes to topwaters. Also been seeing some fish on smaller bucktails. again black but also yellow and orange have been doing good for me. Dont forget the night bite too, (just watch out for them rocks!) Good luck, maybe see ya on the water.

Thanks big bear, glad someone has something to help a guy out. Posted this on the vermillion board and didnt get a peep. Pretty tight lipped like i was going to hoard all the muskies to myself over there, or everybody is just out fishing. Thanks for the info , its all CPR for this guy anyway so i'm not sure why its so hard for some people to give at least some general info for a guy just starting out on the lake. Probably the main reason i have a guide for two days during my trip out there.Too bad its during the last two days! I had a feeling with the slight stain in the water that maybe darker colors would be the ticket for me but was kind of curious as to whether the fish were mainly on the rocks yet or still in the weeds. You answered that for me. I know on Mille lacs there is always a few fish on the rocks but the move doesnt happen until about mid to late summer.

Thanks for your help.

Dan,

You booked an awesome guide in Chad Cain. Too bad you don't have him on the first day of your trip. I think your best bet would be to give Chad a call or send him an email. Being that you'll be paying for his guide service a few days later, I'm sure he'll be a wealth of information for you on the latest out there. I've never hired Chad. But I've ran into him at the launch a few times on Leech when he used to guide there all summer. Great guy and always willing to talk.

My thoughts exactly Aaron. i did quite a bit of research when choosing a guide for the area, and while there are lots of excellent guides for the lake Chad came the most recommended. I think i will give him a call and see if he can at least get me pointed in the right direction so i dont put up the big goosegg for the majority of the week. I was wanting to do this but just wasnt sure if it was the appropriate thing to do. Being that i have him hired for two days i figure the worst he can do is not give me any info, but i dont think that will be the case.

Thanks, I'll have a report when i get back!!
