New bike / Old bike

Recommended Posts

I have a Raleigh C30 19" frame, that I have been riding for about 5 years and am looking to get rid of and am wondering if any one has interest?

Also I am looking to buy something new. I want to buy a hybrid in to the $300-$400 range, any recomendations? I am currently leaning toward the Giant Cypress.

SJB,

You should have plenty of options in that price range. Looks like you are from the Twin Cities area. I would suggest heading to one of the following 3 places. Penn Cycle, Erik's Bike Shop, or Gear West. I believe Penn and Erik's have multiple Twin City locations and Gear West is out in Long Lake. Selection wise you'd probably be better off with either Penn or Erik's as Gear West tends to lean more on the Triathlon/High Performance Road bike side of things.

Looking at the websites it looks like Penn will mainly have Giants and Treks while Erik's will have the Raliegh and Specialized brands. Both have good websites and actually have prices listed. Penn had a '05 Giant Cypress at $250.

Get out and get to the shops and ride a few and go with what feels the best.

Hope this helps.

Andy

I doubt anyone is going to give you money for your old bike regardless of the condition. There just isn't a market for used bikes.

A local bike shop (Brainerd) said I could bring my old bike in and they would get it to a charitable group. The charitable group would then transfer the old bike to the needy in other countries. This is what I am planning to do with my circa 1994 Diamond Back Ascent this fall. I will then take ~$30 charitable contribution on Schedule A on my tax return.

Better than putting an old bike in the landfill.
