Older Johnson motor prob.

I have an older Johnson motor (late 60's??) that is leaking lower unit oil. The "trim tab" or part that sticks down right above the prop. is thick and actually has a screen on it. This is where some lower unit oil seems to be leaking from.

Anyone know off hand where I should start checking for a leak or know exactly where the leak is from? Thanks in advance.

Is it black oil? If so its just oil residue from the exhaust.

That screen is the water pick-up on that motor. Might want to pull the lower unit and look at the seal under the water pump housing.

It is not black oil. Put fresh oil in (blue in color) and that is what is leaking out.

I figured that was what it was but was just checking.

Sounds like a winter project. I've found TC Outboard parts dept a reliable source for ordering parts. Nothings worse then getting home with the wrong parts.
Replace the impeller while your in there. I think a seal kit and impeller will run under 50 bucks.
