May fly hatch in full force

I was out last night fishing on a local lake and seen Nelli, Nessi, the Loch Ness Northern . While we were setting up our jigs about ten feet off the front of the boat we had a huge 15 to 20 lb Northern surface. Mouth wide open moving back and forth sucking in dead flys. Never seen anything like it. It was on the suface for about 30 seconds. Where was the video camera when I needed it. Fishing was slow I'm sure due to the hatch. Graphed tons of fish but couldn't get any to surrender to the frying pan.
