Mono question (knots.. breaks.. fireline)

after re-reading that i'm not sure that came across right. Sly- many people like fireline/braids. I too like it for some applications. I like it when I want to use a bass reel and I want to use very heavy pound line for horsing fish out. I do not use braid for its added sensitivity.

I feel mono/floro get a bad rap, as far as feeling bites, I feel that mono/floro is more than good at feeling a bite. I will admit that braid allows you to feel the bottom content slightly better.

Some like Floro for some applications, some do not

Its up to you to decide what works best for how you fish. What works for me, may not work for you, what works for you may or may not be my fave.

I have 1 rod and 1 reel so i dont get to try that many lines out so i go by my uncle who is a great fisherman and take his advice and it works really well for me so thats what i use i suppose i might try somethin else sometime down the road but for right now i am very happy with fireline

Thanks for all the tips.

I think what I'll do is spend one long 5 day week with the floro 6Lb and then the next long 5 day week trying 4Lb Fireline and compare the results... and let you all know what I find... and if it seems the spook factor comes into play and how the sensitivity differs etc. smile.gif Great being a teachers eh Deitz? wink.gif

8-ball, I am not a fan of braid and spinnerbait fishing.. I loose a lot of fish. A spinnerbait is not a lure in which you need to feel it much anyway. You will know when you get a bite. But braid is fine for slop fishing..

Sly- yep, got to love it!

Well I was out all day with my new 6lb Vanish floro.. and it was like fishing with rubber bands! OK.. not that bad.. but certainly more stretch than Trilene. Crazy. Especially on those long casts.

I definetly had an average number of strikes, but lost so many I was shocked. BUT.. I wonder if it is wire weedless hooks I am using. I bought some 3 lb smkoke fireline today (1 lb diamater!) and MAN that stuff is tough.. even that lb line I can't break by hand.. and it is so narrow I would think the spook factor might not be a problem! Anxious to try it out on my senko rod.. I'll let you know what I find. I guess it is all about experience and experimenting and personal tastes and such... maybe after 3 summers I'll be all set! Last summer I was all Fireline with mono leaders (with correct knot and superglue) and did have really good success with that.. maybe history will, once again, repeat itself? Thanks for the tips!

Comment on fluorocarbon. The advantage of fluoro is... it is invisible under water. So you can use heavier line than normal

in situations that still require stealth. So when you hear comments like less stretch.... think 14, 15, 17 lb test line.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
