Rifle Scope

danny berg

Question

I have an old 4 x 32 scope that had been missplaced for about 6 years, and I found it this past weekend, going thru some boxes of stuff. The cross hairs are gone, can these be replaced cheaply, or would it be best to just look for a new scope. The only name I can find on the scope is Universal, It was a good scope when I rifle hunted, never missed a shot. Thought I could use it for plunking away at varmits at mom's place.

I had an old Weaver with the lifetime warranty. After they got it they wrote that it would be three mounths and to repair it I should send them twice the amount that I paid for the scope. Thats not what they said over the phone. Also had that happen with a Simmons. Your best bet is to pitch it and buy new. My new advice is to buy the best optics that you can't afford. Twenty years from now you won't remember what you paid, but you'll remember that you bought a good scope.

Thanks Guys,
Was hoping it could be fixed cheaply, but guess not, I bought the scope used back in '73 or 74, came with the gun I bought.. So I doubt there is a warrenty with it. I did a search online and I found one place that did fix old scopes but they charged 50 buck for the cross hair replacement, I can buy a new cheapie scope for that amount

Well like others have said. Buy the best scope you can afford. That doesn't mean you'll need to spend $900 on a scope. But for the most part if you can at least jump into the $100-150 scope you'll be a lot happier in the long run than spending $30-50. Keeps you eyes open and you might find a deal. I've picked up $150 scopes for $75 before so it can be done.
