Vent?

This may be a dumb question, but there is a little black knob/vent that comes out the side of my boat. It's on the side of the boat, below the fuel hatch. I'm assuming it's a vent for the gas tank.

Anyway, it looks like a piece of it cracked off and now it kind of looks just like a black hole with no cover on it. Do I need to get it replaced? I'm assuming water can't go down into the gas tank through this hole, but I just thought I should make sure.

The hole knob didn't crack off, just the very top of it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, that is your fuel vent and I would replace it. I'm sure your local dealer can help you find a replacement.
