Question

Just installed new water pump in my 50 hp honda, It pump water fine on high idle but almost stops peeing on low idle. Low idle is around 1000 rmp. Is that to low or do you guys think something else is wrong.

I don't understand the "high idle", I assume you mean high RPM.

Anyway it should have a good stream at idle, you might want to re-check your work, you don't want to overheat the motor.

Did you get a manual for it ?

Was installed by a marine mechanic. Got frusturated and took it apart myself, wasn't much to that. Looks like a aftermarket impellor was used. Don't know if the would make much of a difference thou. running at 1500 rpm got good stream of water, 1000 rpm has good stream for little bit and then slows down. Almost like there is a thermastat on it but I don't think there is one on an outboard. If nothing else will get a honda replacemant. The old impellor was working still, only replaced it because it had been five years since the last change.

That was a good idea replacing the old impeller, I do mine every 2 years.....I saw many times what it can do to a motor neglecting to replace it.

Anyway there's no such a thing as aftermarket or Honda, probably same mfg makes both.

Your motor DOES have a thermostat, most outboards do, 2 stroke or 4 stroke.

If you are not sure have a dealer check it, they will be able to tell you if stream is good or not.

At idle stream is not very strong until rpm are higher.

Ya, I think I'll bring it to a honda dealer instead of an independant. Allthou the guy who replaced it did everything right as far as I know. Anyways thanks for the input Valve.
