Sonar Problems

MNBIGBEAR

Question

I have a Lowrance LMS-240 and I dont know if the problem I am having is something with the transducer or the sonar unit itself. The problem I am having is that my sonar is losing the depth reading and just starts blinking and then after a couple minutes it starts reading again. I tried adjusting the transducer a little bit both ways and that didnt seem to make a difference. Any Suggestions?

Sounds like the transducer to me. I'd check to make sure your transducer connections are tight, check to make sure your battery connections are tight (especially the ground), then try to test your unit with a new transducer. Good luck.

Both - try a new transducer

I would turn on the unit and listen to the clicking the trnsducer is outputing. If it is erratic (should be fast and constant) that will let you know what to compare to. Then hook up the new transducer and compare - You should be able to read depth (2X with air vs. water) against concrete.

I had a X-15mt go bad with the same thing. 90% of th time it's the transducer, in my case it was the unit (same prob's you listed)...

You can also check your ping rate - set it to the highest setting.

By chance are you running another sonar or flasher in the boat? When I run my marcum on the bow it does the exact thing you are describing to my graph. It took me quite a while to make the connection.

I do have another sonar but I dont run them at the same time because of the interference I was getting. I didnt think to check the power cords on the battery. I will have to see if they are tight. Thanks for your info guys.
