Vermilion on opener

Recommended Posts

I can hunt, of course, but am hoping to narrow things down just a bit. I'll be opening for toothies on the East Bay of Vermilion, fishing the areas around Stuntz Bay, Ely Island and over to Comet and perhaps Isle of Pines and up around the north side of Pine.

Surface temps this week are in the 60s, with 70s in some of the warmest shallow bays.

My question is, should I target really shallow warm water like the muck-bottom south and west facing ends of bays, or might fish be more likely out a bit deeper in emerging weedbeds? It's been an early warm spring up here, and Vermilion is stained water, so it warms up pretty quickly.

Any thoughts on this?
