Bass and wind.

Does wind seem to make a big difference when fishing bass? I know better than to go out walleye fishing when the wind is from the northeast, but I'm wondering if bass are as finicky regarding wind direction. Considering I drive 120 miles one way to go bass fishing, I like to choose the best conditions for a little success.

X- fish are fish!... and weather does affect them just like all species. As a matter of fact, the shallower a fish is, the more weather usually does affect it. However, I dont say just because the wind if from the NE the fishing is bad.. if the wind has been from the NE for a few days, the fishing can be quite good.

Wind affects all fish, adapt! Not going fishing is not an option! Downsize, fish deeper, fish smarter!

Absolutely, wind is a huge factor as it does affect their environment. Wind causes wind blown current, and that current can scatter or concentrate the food chain. I particularly like to look for current impenging on points or islands, and the eddys the wind blown current creates. That current also can cause temperature gradients. So look for the wind rows, the current lines, the mud lines and any hint of what the wind might be doing to the water. Things might surprise you.

When the wind picks up, I usually look for bass along the edges and inside the pencil reeds, especially if the wind is blowing up against them or in at an angle. I break out the white spinner-bait and go to town! smile.gif

Wind can also create slack areas behind pieces of structure. I also like to look for those areas on certain lakes when targeting bass.
