Ignace/ Cecil Lake

Recommended Posts

Has anyone fished this lake? How did you do and is it hard to land a boat there? We are thinking of trying it for Lakers and wondering what else is in there. We usually fish Paguchi for lakers but want to try something else in the area.

I fished that lake about 10 years back. We went w/ an old guide named John out of Ignace. He had a boat and motor hid in the brush. I have no idea how it is to get a boat back there. I do know from travelling that road up towards Savant Lake you can see Cecil from the road now. Back then I don't recall being able to see it from the road. We were using steel line w/ 4 foot mono leaders for the lakers. I couldn't get use to not setting the hook and just reeling. Old John was yelling at me for continually breaking off that mono when I would set the hook. He told us that there were tons of little lakers in that lake and he never caught anything over 13 pounds in a lifetime of fishing that lake. We caught a bunch of little 2-4 pounders but certainly no trophy's. Hope that helps.

There is a landing there but not a good one. It is all sand. Depending on the lake level you can launch a small boat there with a 4-wheel drive if you have a roller trailer - no bunk trailers. I have seen where people have buried their trucks in the lake bed there. there are a few northerns in the lake and when you catch one it is usually a big one. How is the trout fishing on Pagucci - any numbers or size, Dan

Well we ended up going to Paguchi. We caught 6 fish total with the biggest being 6.1lbs. It started to get really windy out there so we ended up calling it a day.
