PROP

stmichael

Question

I had a prop repaired near the end of open water last season. It looked awesome, just like new... smile.gif...I went to put it on yesterday and one of the fins is too long, it hits the lower unit. There is a quarter inch gap on the other two fins. Would not this be out of balance? I would like to bring it to the guy I got it from but I don't remember how to get to his house exactly. (this was the drop off point) now I am going to be stuck paying someone else to fix this mistake. Just looking at the prop a person could not tell that it was off that much.

As far as repairs go, to my understanding the repair whether it was a little ding to 1/3 of the prop missing(this may be a slight exxageration smirk.gif). no matter what it costs $60. I am going to call a few places today to find out for sure, just so you guys know check your equipment thoroughly after getting it repaired. I understand we are all human and make mistakes, mine is not keeping better records of receipts. frown.gifmad.giffrown.gif

This was a brand new prop last season, little bro was not paying attention on the St. Croix. Thankfully, I still have the original prop.

Hopefully its the prop and not a bent prop shaft.

Check your yellow pages and maybe that'll help you remember where you brought the prop to.

Lastly if it were my prop I wouldn't have a problem with grinding it down to the proper size. Make a paper pattern by tracing a blade and cut it out. Place that over the over sized blade and draw the correct profile on the blade.

Surface Tension,

I am not worried about a bent shaft, good point though! My other prop has the equal clearance with the fins. I never thought about doing it myself, I could make a template from one of the other fins and transfer that to the one that is too long.

Thank you for the idea!
