Merc S/N

snowman1251

Question

I have an 1989 60 hp Merc 3 cyl, and I cannot find the S/N, Can anyone tell me where to look and what the number should start with? or how many digits? Need to order a part and they say they need the S/N

Thanks

Look on the brackets that attaches to transom, there is a silver label approx 2" x 1" with all the info.

This is from a '95 but yours should be similar, possible on the other side.

Checked and there was no label. Found one that looked promising stamped on the block (6 digit # 632 891) also found one on the transom mounts but looks like a P/N since it's molded on the part (9 digit #) Hard to tell which number is the S/N since there are numbers all over the block, heads and mounting brackets, Is yours a Merc block (4 cyl)?, because I think this mine is a Yamaha power head (3 cyl)

This could make a difference where the S/N is stamped

Yes that was a 4 cylinders but it makes no difference they are all located there, regardless of size and model. Probably got peeled off and lost it. Which part are you looking for ?

I need the plastic adjustable shift linkage for the shift handle on a tiller model, the dealer said he needs the S/N to order, I will just take to him and see if he can find the S/N, he should know how to find it

That's exactly what I would do. I don't think the handles were different from model to model, but it's just like at the auto parts store, they want to know if your truck is a "4x4, auto, long box" when you are just buying windshield wipers.......
