I forgot to include that useful info.

We are heading up in the middle of June, pulling/bouncing in three boats. Not sure where on the lake to begin. mainly looking for good fishing for shore lunch and a chance at a few good pictures taken.

Eric22,

I have fished that lake many times. Our group launches from the north end and camps out in the main lake on several different islands. Do you know where the basket river comes in? Post and maybe we can connect via phone or something

Once you go down the road off of 599 you will understand what I mean about bouncing your boat. Last fall the road was in good shape to Agimac resort 15 miles in. It looked like they were cutting the trees back further down the road so they may have done some more work on the road. Good idea to take your time on the road. If you are taking your boats you will have to launch on the north end which isn't the best launching spot, but it can be done. I haven't been down to the north end for about 5 years so maybe the access has been improved by the MNR.

It is a good idea to camp on an island because this is bear country and there are lots of them. They know all the camp spots and can be very distructive pests. The MNR had to level one out a couple of years ago because it chased a guy in our party. We were camped at another lake along the road. June is a prime time for fishing, but the squitos are in their prime as well. Be sure to bring the bug dope, lots of bug dope.

This lake is prime no matter what time of the year you fish it. Find main channel large weed beds and fish just on the break and you will find walleyes. In the center of the lake there is a complex of islands and shallow (very shallow) reefs. Find the weeds between the islands and fish in the general area and you will find eyes. Jigs and minnows work well. Because of the proximity of the fish to the weed beds cranks like shad raps, spots, and reef runners provide a change-of-pace from the jigging.

The best info I have on the lake right now is a map which shows the basket river up in the north east corner of the lake. As far as camping goes we a driving in a converted bus and am wondering if there is any access to the lake down by Dome Lake? If there are other lakes in the area you would recommend we are game, we have been fishing the Graham road for the past 18 years and decided to try something different this year.

Eric,

Have yo ever fished Flat Rock? This is my favorite lake in the area and I use to fish it bunch in the 80's and 90's. A great walleye lake with a bonus lake trout thrown in. I fished Kukukus in 1988 and I didn't think it compared to Flat Rock. Plus it was a whole lot more work(and wear and tear)to get back to Kukukus. I haven't fished Flat Rock since 1997 but have caught a ton of quality fish on that lake. Good luck.

It is 26 miles in on that road(lake will be on the left). The lake conects to Arethusa and Flat Rock is also called Abitigimia(spelling). We use to go about 13 miles by water to get where we camped on Flat Rock. So we started at Arethusa and went about 10 miles by boat before we hit Flat Rock. Like I said I haven't been there in a while but a great lake to fish for walleyes.

Benfishing- i also have been on Flat rock, pretty good lake. Lots of walleye but we switched over to Kukukus because we thought the quality of the eyes was better (bigger). Eric, on the north end people tend to stay in their truck campers if they are not going to camp on islands. another lake to try is heathwalt, good walleye lake. Eric- we have been going to Harmon lake for past 5 years. we camp on the small island towards main lake. We fish the rapid, east and west arms. We go in from the south end, but are getting tired of the long trip. We might be heading back to Kukukus.

Harmonator,

After fishing Flat Rock for 15 years we got to know the lake very well. We always got fish up to 6-7 lbs no monsters like 9 or 10 ponder but plenty of quality 2-3 pounders. That lake really seemed to be an evening bite lake. Always caught fish at toward dusk sometimes struggled during the day. Good luck to all.

Harmonator,

We always went in on the northeast point of the lake and camped on an island 1/2 way to the rapids on the south end. We found some nice spots around the island for eyes that were quite a bit bigger then what we were catching at the rapids.

As far as Kukukus is there any way into the lake down by Dome Lake or will we need to head to the north end? If we can camp in that area it will give us the chance to fish Flatrock as well and see what we like.

Anyone still interested in fishing specifics on lakes in this area. We have been going the 3rd week of August for a few years, staying at Agimac and fishing Indian lake only. This year looking to do some day trip exploring.

Appreciate any help.
