"Sunfish are a lot of fun on light tackle, and trophy sunfish will push the limits of any ultra-lite rod. Catching a big sunfish is exciting for an angler of any level and it seems to always have that knack for bringing out the kid in you!!!"

Your last statement is so true....hehehe.

Sunfish action is hard to beat. Some of the best fishing of the season is for Blue Gills. I target them with a five wieght fly rod. In the spring they go for any nymph. Later in the season I use a foam "spider" with four rubber legs and a little deer hair on the end. The blue gills will actually charge the fly with the tops of thier backs out of the water. It is just as heart pupming as catching muskie or trout on the surface. I also ocassionally get some nice bass in the process. Anyone catching the big bulls, please pratcice catch and release and use barbless hooks.

I guess that's another one of the beauty's of targeting panfish, you get to fish for them all year long.
