Question

marineman my grandsons 1972 johnson motor when advances throttle jumps out of gear would that be the gears or maybe adjustment? motor rus real good and when slow ok too thanks castindad

Thats a lower unit issue.. its pretty common usually caused by kicking the motor into gear too many times at too fast of rpm.

Its called a clutch or gear dog if I am not mistaken.

It's a lower unit problem as That Guy said...

I belive it's called the clutch dog, and typically requires the lower unit to be taken apart to replace it...

Not a backyard mechanic type of job in my opinion...
