Bass behavior before or after spawn?

I saw a Largemouth bass this weekend that was just milling around in the shallows. It looked like it was totally exhausted. I was able to walk right up next to it in waders while putting in the dock. Does anyone know if this is post or pre spawn behavior? I would guess post as I saw no signs of it trying to lay eggs or anything like that? It also did not appear to be full of eggs. No sign of it trying to get away from me. I thought it was dying when I first saw it. It reminded me of a struggling fish after a release. What water temps do bass spawn in?

Spawn time is usually 60 degrees or better for largemouth bass. The males show up before the females to clear nests. The females show up to dump their eggs and they are out of there. You may have saw a male clearing a nest, but more likely you saw a fish that had some sort of disease going for it.
