3 of us fished crow lake yeserday for lakers. About one hour of bank fishing with ciscos with nothing and about five hours of pulling plugs with only 2 lakers caught and they were only like 2-3 lbs but we didnt get skunked. I dont know Crow lake at all so i didnt have any input as far as spots. I know Whitefish bay good and dogpaw lake but my buddy had his sights set on Crow. The company was good but I have seen better days as far as fishing, even my slowest days on whitefish were better but dont get me wrong I was up for some new territory. i hear of guys going up there and hammering the lakers. i used to fish it alot when I was a kid cuz we had a friend who had a cabin up there but we never got into the lakers back then either. had my best smallie fishing ever on Crow but as far as lakers I think I will stick to what I know like whitefish and other lakes east of Sioux narrows. We also went for crappies on Lake of the woods out of Nestor falls but needless to say it was a good boat ride and all we caught was 2 saugers and a perch. Gotta head to work tonight but like that saying ' bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work' or something like that. By the way we went out from Muskie bay. Nice resort, back in a bay out of the wind and the ownwers seemed like nice people. Good luck fishing. Brian

Sorry to hear about the slow fishing. We did well ice fishing on Crow this year. In fact, we were thnking about heading there last Wednesday, but we ended up going to Esox instead. How deep were ya fishing and what was working best. OUt best lure was a shad type rap pulled thirty feet down over forty to fifty feet of water. How far up the lake did you guys go, what was the water temp on Crow and at Nestor? Just curious as I am thinking about heading there in a week or so. By then some bays should be warm at nestor too, so the craps should bite.

A purple glass shad was what my buddy used to catch his and we were in anywhere from 15-40 ft of water. I never really trolled lakers before so this was all new to me. he told me the plug I was pulling dove down about 8 ft and his were more like 12. we all had line counters on our rods. I did have one on for a few seconds but that was all the action I had. I thought this was a little shallow myself as far as the plugs go. Maybe we shoulda put ones on that run deeper. The temp out on the lake was 39 degrees. Made a big difference as far as cooling down when you hit the open part of the lake. We fished the more northern part of the lake. Dont remember any names other than someone mentioning the peninsula. temp on the lotw side was about 50 degrees and we hardly marked any fish. the other guy that was with us does good up there in the fall so we tried them spots. We went far enough west to where it started to open up, just east of King and blueberry islands then thats where I know that part of the lake because we used to to alot of musky fishing in Sabaskong bay and hunt some deer there too. Let us know how you make out on the lakers. another reason why my buddy wanted to fish crow was he dont know whitefish bay but like I said i was up for something somewhat new. i wont be home til saturday afternoon. Good luck fishing! Brian

When I saw your post I thought for a minute you had fished out of my boat! I was up on Crow last weekend with two others, fishing was very slow. Like you, it was our first time up and we didn't have much experience fishing this time of year. We trolled for a couple days but only caught 2 trout and 2 muskies (32 and 38"). We fished anywhere from 20 to 60 fow, used a variety of spoons, plugs, deep divers, and leadcore. We covered the water column down to 30 feet and were all over the lake. Water temp was 42 to 45 degrees. Weather was crappy after a week or two of nice, so that's what I'm blaming it on. Was still a nice time, but sure would like to catch some fish!

Last Tuesday & Wednesday my fishing buddy and I fished several places on Crow, we caught one to two each day fishing from shore, our trout came out of 50 to 65 fow. We tried trolling with no success. The surface water temp went from, 39 to 43 degrees, Paul at Muskie Bay Resort thought the water temp was too cold as the shiners hadn't started running yet so the bait and trout were scattered. We tried the Narrows on Whitefish Bay Thurs and that was slower still.
