walleyeguy7
I was out fishing the St. Croix north of Osceola this last weekend and I caught a bunch of walleyes and one sauger. The sauger was full of eggs and from what I understand the spawn is over for the walleyes. The water temp was 58 on Saturday and on Sunday the temp dropped from 58 to 54. I guess what I am asking is, Do sauger spawn later than walleyes or is it unusual to catch a fish full of eggs this late ?
rosspj59
Yes, sauger spawn after walleyes. They usually spawn in the low to middle 50's for water temp. You are probably catching a few fish on the tail end of the spawn. The water temps in the croix are usually cooler than the mississippi in the spring so spawning in the croix is usually a little later than the mississippi if thats what you might be comparing too.
