TheIceFishingKid
I am looking at camping at Split Rock Lighthouse state park this summer. Has any one been here and how was it? Is there any place to fish from shore?
Killdeer
In my opinion I would just go a few miles down the road to goosebarry falls... it has a nice campground right by the lake and a few places to fish from shore (not sure how good the fishing is)
Powerstroke
I've camped at Split Rock before. When I was there all the campsites were "hike-in only". They provide 2 wheeled carts to help haul your gear if you didn't pack for the BWCA. We casted from shore and I canoed a bit on the big lake, but we never caught any fish. Don't let that mean anything though cause I've never caught a fish in Superior and I wouldn't even know where to start. The sites are great but will be reserved early if you choose a holiday weekend. TheIceFishingKid
Really we could stay at any of the state parks as long as its on the lake. Why do you say goosebarry? Is iit nicer? Thanks
Killdeer
In my opinion yes... more to do for the family and better camp spots but it can be hard to get into if you don't make a reservation. But if you get up there during the week or even on a thursday I know of a good spot that is first come first serve and there is only 5 camping spots and not a house on the lake but it's 20 miles from lake superior and 30 miles from split rock but it's free and like I said you'll get a spot as long as you get up there before friday night when everyone comes up if you give me your e-mail I'll send you the info

ellroy2
If you want more space and privacy, go Splitrock. For a State Park, the cart-in sites are really nice if you pick wisely when making a reservation. For fishing, might as well make it to Ely or the Gunflint and stay at a campground on a lake. Trails End on the Gunflint has some nice private spots with good fishing. I am really picky though about staying at campgrounds since I like my space.
