Dan Thiem
Last night around 6:00 on Lake Zumbro (near Rochester) we witnessed an Osprey twist and fall out of the sky, straighten out, and glide down to nab a fish out of the water. This happen about a hundred yards from us. Though it may be common up north or elsewhere to see something like that, down here I aint never seen nothing like that before. But get this, here's the kicker! It flew up and around the trees. I assume looking for a perch branch to land on? All of the sudden, out of nowhere, here comes this Bald Eagle! It zoomed right at the osprey and they both did some "dogfight" manuvers in the sky above us. The eagle kept after that osprey for quite sometime. After a couple minutes the show was over. We even had a digital camera and took pictures. But they look like two specks in the sky. Oh well!
Steve Foss
That's a great thing to witness, Dan. Camera shmamera! You'll have that engraved in your memory the rest of your life. I've never seen a bald eagle that didn't covet its neighbor's fish.
