Matt Johnson
With the recent arrival of the open water season we find ourselves staring slab crappies and “bull” gills right in the face. The water now begins to warm at a rapid pace and soon we’ll find those trophy panfish cruising the shallows in search of food. Once this phenomenon occurs, I turn to small spinners that provide a lot of action and throw off a lot of vibration. Slab crappies can’t resist the power of a small spinner-bait, and you’d be surprised as to how many sunfish also decide to join in on the fun. Spinner-baits are not just for bass and pike, smaller-profiled spinner-baits are taking the panfish-world by storm… JB Lures, one of our very own sponsors, offers several spinner-bait options for those looking to increase their productivity once the water warms up. The Tadpole Spin comes in three different sizes (1/16oz - 1/4oz) and a multitude of colors… Tadpole Spin Tadpole Spin colors The Tadpole Spin performs much-like your bass spinner-baits, except it’s geared towards panfish with a smaller profile and a plastic body. It also has a fish-shaped head for a more realistic appeal, and the colors offer something that’s vibrant, yet catering to the underwater world. I’ve always been a believer that your presentation needs to match the mood of the fish, and once the panfish feel the heat of the high suns, you can bet I’ll have a spinner-bait rigged on one of my rods at all times. I think the 1/16oz Pearl-Red Tadpole Spin looks to be my next victim JB Lures also makes a wide-variety of larger spinner-baits for bass, so once the bass season starts, and you get your panfish fix taken care of (which never happens for me ) you can jump right into those bucketmouths!... JB Lures offers a lot of products for the open water angler. Besides spinner-baits, they also make crank-baits, spinner-rigs, jigs, spoons… the list goes on. For more information or to get a look at more JB Lures tackle options, visit www.JBLures.com. The open water season is here! Enjoy the season! Deitz Dittrich
I really wasn't aware that JB made bass spinnerbait. I will have to give them a try this summer for sure...

harvey lee
Looks like I will have to take another drive over to Winthrop and do some more shopping.I feel just like my wife on Saturdays, more shopping.
markkstanley
Been using the smaller spinner for panfish for a few years. Very effective. Once the grub trailer is trashed I just put on a power minnow or small exude grub. Have to buy about 3 or 4 a year because the bass and pike also seem to like them as well and I lose a few to them. Mr. Pike1
Not often you hear of Winthrop, MN. That is actually my mothers home town an I used to spend time in that area a child to visit my grand parents and my cousins were near by in the booming town of Gibbon. Up until the now "famous" tackle company I think Roger Erickson was the pride of Winthrop.

harvey lee
I tried some of the new Tadpole spinner baits this morning and yes, they do catch crappies.I found a good bite so I tied a Chart. one on and it didnt take long to turn the fish on.Once the heat of summer comes this spinner should perform well. Kudos to the boys at JB Lures for another fine bait.

harvey lee
bc They should work better this summer, but I did get some on them the other day.I had to try them out and the bite was good. I would also take a look at thier spinners also, some nice looking new stuff. Its like being a kid in a candy store. Its darn hard to beat the power minnow and the micro shad right now,but those tadpole spinners will have thier day.
eyepatrol
Yeah, the stub grub and microshad really worked well this past weekend when I fished them under a bobber, but I'm more of a fan-cast guy and would like to add some spinners to the box. Suppose I could have casted the others, but I really want to give those spinners a go, especially for as aggressive as those crappies are right now! Matt Johnson
Once mid-summer hits I'm constantly throwing small spinners for pannies, both crappies and gills.A very versatile presenation that allows me to cover a lot of water and really find the fish. It also seems to draw out some of the larger, more aggressive fish as well...
Tyler Holm
I’ve been itchin to give the Tadpole Spins a whirl and finally got my chance on Sunday morning. I was rewarded with some staggering fish. I was fishing in an area where the weeds had already sprung up at least a foot from the bottom. Given the 30+mph wind, float fishing was out of the question. I turned to the 1/16oz red/pearl-white Tadpole Spin. This lure was heavy enough to cast into the wind, but most importantly I could vary my retrieve speed and easily keep the lure just above the weeds. This combination proved to be deadly. I caught at least 15 bull bluegills that went around 10” with the biggest going 10.25” The smallest gill of the day went 8.5” All fish were released. If you want to weed out the smaller pesky bluegills, and focus solely on true bulls, throw on a Tadpole Spin and hang on to your rod. More Pictures Here! Tyler Holm
I had an awesome outting last night with 2 of JB Lures products. First, the Tadpole Spin produced sheer numbers of fish. I caught countless smallies, largies, white bass, crappies 1 rock bass, 1 perch, and 1 gill all off the 1/16 Tadpole Spin red/pearl. Towards evening I put on a 1/32 oz Crappie Delite (blue skirt with a blue hook) and the crappies were going crazy over it. Right at dusk, I was catching about 1 fish a minute. I had it set about 18” below a small float. Tadpole Spin Crappie Delite (Blue)
Matt Johnson
Another excellent fish Tyler! The Tadpole Spin worked wonders the last couple days on the crappies and sunfish. We worked both deep weed edges and shallow water flats. A slow, constant retreive seemed to work the best. The Tadpole Spin also landed me a couple walleyes... and a few bonus sheephead It's getting close to the time where small-profiled spinner-baits are going to produce on a regular basis. The water is warming up quickly, and I plan on targeting a lot of panfish with small-profiled spinner-baits throughout the summer. Not to mention bass and walleye too...
