trailer spindle help

Dano2

Question

one of the spindles on my trailer was welded on a little crooked so the wheel bows in at the top abit, it looks goofy and I'm sure it'll wear the tire quickly uneven.

Has anyone ever heated (with a torch) such a thing and tweaked it abit.

If so, could you give me a couple pointers to think about?
Kind of funny, I'm a welder but am abit chicken on trying something like this on my own equipment, HEH

OH, and NO, I wasn't the one that welded the spindle on. The guy that owned it before me had some welding teacher do it, kind of scarey, eh!

Be carefull with what looks wrong on your trailer.
An empty trailer should look like the top of the tire is slightly tilted (bowed) to the outside so that when it gets loaded there is still a very slight tilt so the trailer goes down the road straight.

It does sound like the axel that bows the tire in at the top is bad.

You need to establish what the correct setup should be.
The tire wear and more importantly how hot the tires get is very dependent on getting this correct.

thanks folks, maybe I'll just purchase a new axle instead of screwing around with it.
I think there only about $75 anyway.

Not sure what load axle to get though,
I know I need to measure from hub face to hub face, and center to center of leafs, which is 5ft. on mine, but I wondering whats on there right now as far as load, would a 2000 pounder be good?

Its an escort bunker trailer, with a 17ft. bayliner capri,I/O 2.3L.
what do ya think the boat with moter weighs about?
I was thinking around 1500#.
thanks.

P.S. for those that see this post and have helped me with my steering problem in the past, thanks.
got the new steering system put in, and it works great now, had to do acouple mods on the dash, but nothing too complicated. should have bought original equipment, I'll know better next time.
Also, after running most of the old gas out , running some seafoam through the carb, it runs fine now, no more carb. back fireing.

the best thing to do is cut the weld with a thin blade on a 4 1/2 inch grinder they are called speedy cut wheels.remove the spindal clean it up and reweld it.This would take a lot less time than a new axel. These wheels will cut through the weld like it was butter.the .030 thick wheels work the best.Good luck
